Angelica Santos began her duties as Religious Education Coordinator on August 1, and she took up her post strengthened by prayer.

“I’m just praying to be the bridge between families and children and the faith,” she says. “Especially since I’m bilingual, and I see some families struggle to communicate. I’d like to be that bridge. I hope to be the instrument for the kids to find Christ.”

Angelica knows what it is like to move between two cultures, as she was born in California, but moved to Mexico to her parents’ town. She grew up attending Catholic school until the sixth grade.

Angelica is married to Juan Santos, who serves as an acolyte. She and her family joined the parish four years ago, and became active participants in the liturgy of the Spanish Mass. Angelica began helping with the Children’s Liturgy of the Word. “I then jumped into helping faith formation,” she says.

The importance of making sure her children were educated in the faith was the impetus for taking the Religious Education Coordinator’s post. “I have children, and I realized I had to be involved in my children’s religious education, otherwise they don’t get it,” Angelica says.
