Godparents | Padrinos

Only one (1) godparent is necessary, although two is the general practice. “Only one male or one female sponsor or one of each sex is to be employed.” (Canon Law 873) The godparent(s) must be confirmed, at least 16 years of age or older and a practicing Catholic (which means, if married, he or she is married in the Church and is regularly practicing the Catholic faith.)
