Introducing our new Handbell Choir!
Are you interested in being a part of a musical group that serves St. Michael, but you don't sing!
Come join our new handbell choir and serve with other musicians in our community. You don't need a high level of musical expertise, just know your left hand from your right hand and the ability to identify lines and spaces on the staff. This choir is open to 7th grade to adults and meets on Mondays, 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, beginning Monday, September 12.

Practice is every week. New members are welcome, no music experience is required. Choirs serve together once a month at Sunday morning Mass and also for several feast days through the year. There is no fee to serve in the choir.
The Children and Youth Choirs at St. Michael provide:
1. Accountability for families who want to go to church, but are out of the habit.
If you have struggled to get your whole family involved in church, joining the children's choir has helped many of the families sitting with you in the congregation. We have weekly rehearsals and sing at Mass once to twice a month. The kids are always excited to serve the congregation at Mass.
2. Lifelong friendships for children, teens, and families.
Our children and youth choirs sing together, pray together, and have parties and activities together all year. The time to get your child involved in a church community is now. A recent nationwide study revealed that children decide their lifetime religious preference by the age of 10.
3. Understanding Mass and faith through professional vocal instruction.
No singing experience is needed! They do not need to "sing good" to join choir. Miss Laine has nearly 20 years experience of teaching children to sing. She has taught choir in public schools (directed a 250 member middle school choir program), taught private voice lessons to hundreds of students, and has directed the children and youth choirs at St. Michael for 8 years.
Here is what parents say about St. Michael Children and Youth Choirs!
"We definitely go to Mass more because of the kids involvement in choir. It’s something I’ve needed to work on as their parent."
"Joining the choir helped strengthen my child’s faith. She no longer groans at the mention of waking up for church and is able not only to follow along with Mass but is confident in her responses."
"The lessons taught during practice are broken down to a child level so they understand what they are reading and singing."
"Having the kids in choir has brought me closer to the church. It has become a bigger priority to strengthen my own faith, through daily Mass, regular confession and adoration, etc. It has also broadened our fellowship circle. We now have friends within the parish that we wouldn't have met without choir."
"They have stronger faith and the information that they learn through music seems to stick with them."
"The kids learn a lot because the director explains the meaning of the songs in a way that they understand the meaning of music in liturgy."
"It allows my child to be a leader and role model in the church for other young Catholics. Choir has boosted their self confidence. They’ve learned the Mass, including prayers and songs that have long been traditions in the church. They’ve learned to pray for themselves and others. They created friendships with other Catholic kids in our community. And we have the most amazing choir director/teacher anyone could ask for. She’s talented, encouraging, patient, and has an incredible way with the children. We are blessed to be a part of St. Michael Youth Choir."
"Choir allows [our daughter] the opportunity to be a part of a church ministry and learn at the same time. She has learned a great deal about our faith, the art of singing, and enjoys the time with her peers."
