The Altar Servers assist the priest and/or deacon, thereby serving the whole community. Requirement: Current candidates will be accompanied by a parent/mentor for a period of formation. Please be aware that alter server volunteers are added to the volunteer list and are called upon and trained as needed.

Baptismal Preparation, Spanish Volunteer
Spanish-speaking volunteers assist Hispanic families as they prepare their child to receive the Sacrament of Baptism. Volunteers assist in helping the parents and Godparents understand the meaning of the Sacrament in their own language.

Baptismal Preparation Team
The Sacrament of Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. The Baptism Preparation Team helps parents and Godparents prepare their child to receive this holy sacrament. Through God’s grace, this team helps class participants deepen their understanding and commitment to not only be the first teachers of their children, but the best teachers of their children in the ways of our faith.

Cantors are the leaders of sung prayer for the assembly at worship. Through their leadership they foster a greater sense of full, active participation. Candidates must possess a pleasant singing voice and an ability to read music. Both an audition and attendance at monthly formation classes are required. High school students and adults are welcome.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
This ministry is open to confirmed Roman Catholics in good standing. Ministers are trained on a quarterly basis and are scheduled as needed by their particular Mass times and team assignments. Currently, the Mass times that have the greatest need are the Sunday

Celebration of Life Reception Hosts
These volunteers host receptions after funeral services or aid the hosts/hostesses by providing meals. This service includes setting up, serving, and cleaning from a buffet style meal for those attending the funeral. A critical role is that of the cooks (food preparation) for the reception. If this is one of your gifts, we can certainly use your talent to assist families who are dealing with a very stressful time.

In the absence of a priest or deacon, the lay leader of prayer leads the community in the Liturgy of the Hours or in the Sunday Celebration in the Absence of a Priest. Leaders are appointed as needed.

Lectors proclaim the Word of God within liturgical celebrations including Mass, funerals, weddings, and Liturgy of the Hours. Particular skills of public speaking are required and an extended (12 hours) formation is required. The formation is yearly in May-June. High school youth and adults are welcome as needed.

Responsible for the environment of the various worship spaces of St. Michael, this team provides appropriate enhancement of our liturgical seasons through the use of color, flowers and other appropriate decorations.

Instrumentalists who would like to enhance the celebration of Mass with their particular skills are invited to join the Adult Liturgical Choir, other cantored Masses and the Youth choir. Regular rehearsals with these groups is a requirement for participation.

The Prayer Group consists of people of all ages seeking a closer relationship with the Lord through prayer, service and fellowship. We encourage the development of the
gifts of the Holy Spirit for personal growth (Is 11:2). The twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit are for the building up of the community (1Cor 12:7-10).

The sacristan prepares the physical objects needed for the celebration of the sacred mysteries. A detailed ministry, this ministry is necessary for the smooth flow of the liturgical celebration. Candidates are trained on an as needed basis from the volunteer list.

Wedding Coordinators attend wedding rehearsals and weddings to ensure that the Liturgy flows properly. They help set up and take down the wedding decorations. Anyone eighteen years or older is welcome to join this ministry.
